When photojournalism student Elliot Reid receives an invitation to join the Mesmer Society, she knows it’s her chance to expose the secrets of the most exclusive and mysterious club on campus. But as she delves into the lustful ways of the secret society, she realises she might be in for more than she bargained for.
Caught in the Mesmers’ web of sex, power exchange and wealth, Elliot is about to discover a new realm of pleasure and fantasy. But is she willing to pay the price?
Having never experienced societies at university, having been educated in Britain, I found the idea of a secret society dedicated to sexual experience intriguing and fascinating. Luckily, A.R. Lain did not disappoint. I liked the female lead Elliot Reid and how through the short story she began to understand herself and stand up to the dominating people in her life. The secrecy of the Mesmer Society and what they provide their members is well written and engaging, but be warned this is a very short story – of 48 pages – and it does end suddenly. Having just got into the story I was disappointed that Lain decided to leave it at an unexpected place when the action was getting interesting, I literally turned the page expecting the next chapter and it was the end of the book.
Although very short, I was left wanting more and desiring to read the next instalment. The sex is well written and steamy with the beginnings of a sexual awakening through BDSM. Certainly a quick and sexy read, just a shame that I was left wanting more because it was too short! If you like the blurb I would recommend buying the collection as a whole rather than reading each instalment, unless you are unlike me and can wait to find out what happens next…
